The opening keynote was presented by Michael Smith from TeraTech. His theme was the 'health care crisis in the programming world.'
He covered a list of things that should be considered best practices but may not be used by all developers all the time. Things like code reviews, unit testing, profiling your code, integration testing, prototyping, server monitoring, and may others. He held it in an informal Q&A style but the audience seemed a bit sluggish, perhaps because it was so early and people had been up late the night before.
